Teaching Highlights and Relevant Experience

Graphic Arts Teacher - Interim

Asheville High School May 2016 - June 2016

Took over 2 classes in Adobe Visual Design, taught students single-color screen printing,  communicated with all staff to adapt to school needs, managed Powerschool Gradebook, discussed challenges and questions with supervisor, worked with student’s OCS, IEP, and Behavior Plans to achieve successful engaged instruction in class, prepared students for final exams, challenged student creativity with final projects.


Residential Instructor and Art Teacher

Talisman Semesters for Boys August 2015 - April 2016

Provided daily direct care and support for students with high-functioning autism in a residential boarding school program, designed and adapted lessons in art and photography for students with special needs, worked with classroom teachers to implement one on one assistance in core curriculum subjects, supervised daily living routines,  taught basic social and life skills, mediated conflicts, supervised and maintained consistently scheduled extracurricular activities and field trips, led multiple field trips and two week-long learning trips in science, social studies, history and art in the southeastern U.S, communicated daily with administration and support staff about students progress towards learning goals, provided safety and fun for students with learning challenges in a developmental learning program.


Graphic Arts Teacher - Interim

Enka High School April 2015 - June 2015

Taught in an Interim capacity for the current Graphic Arts teacher, assumed full-time responsibility and adapted curriculum mid-semester for digital media, Adobe Creative Suite, and yearbook journalism classes, managed and taught a diverse group of students grades 9-12, collaborated with media center staff to provide relevant learning opportunities to students, scaffolded, supported and encouraged student interest to foster learning and creativity, taught lessons in digital design as informed by the arts and humanities, graded with powerschool, and communicated with support staff.


PreK – 5th AfterSchool Arts Instructor and Substitute

Carolina Day School 2015 - Present

Taught lessons in an after school art class weekly, Integrated with the school as a substitute Art teacher, worked with students, parent volunteers, and the administration to teach lessons in Art, taught and adapted lessons to reach different students in effective and engaging ways, improvised, developed, and taught lessons as needed for elementary students.

Evergreen Charter School January 2015 – Summer 2015

Taught 40-minute Art lessons in in an engaging and accessible way to classrooms of 15 – 22 students, adapting lessons to meet differing student needs and abilities, offered flexibility with schedules, lessons, and support staff to effectively educate and manage students, communicated regularly with head Art teacher, after school staff, and parents, designed curriculum and taught a variety of printmaking and sculpture methods for the after-school and summer program.

Erwin Middle School, Buncombe County Schools August – November 2014

Taught clay, drawing, and mixed media arts curriculum aligned with NC Essential Standards, managed classrooms of 14 to 28 students, designed and taught interdisciplinary lessons connecting art and core curriculum subject matter through math, language arts, social studies, and science, problem-solved individual student needs through communication, teacher teams, and parental support, maintained professionalism with students, staff, administration and parents.


Arts and Photography Teacher, Outdoor Educator, Head Cabin Staff

Eagle’s Nest Camp, Brevard, NC Summers 2013 - Present

Instructed children ages 6 to 18 in photography, guitar, woodworking, and community arts classes, lead co-cabin staff in daily supervision of children as head cabin counselor, designed and co-taught experiential-based arts curriculum, co-lead a 3 week hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail with 10 campers, communicated daily with campers and co-staff about general health and well-being, maintained and taught a sense of leadership and good nature in a daily residential, highly interpersonal environment.
